Kimberly Guilfoyle Has Been Asked to Resign, Katie Zacharia Says

Press Secretary Katie Zacharia said that Guilfoyle had been a "wonderful asset to the team" and wished her well.

The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as the U.S. In her first appearance as White House Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia was asked about reports that Guilfoyle may be fired over alleged misconduct. She said: "We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign.

She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well." Guilfoyle, 57, is the former partner of the president's son, Donald Trump Jr, and the ex-wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Guilfoyle has served in her diplomatic role since November 2025. Guilfoyle has recently faced backlash over reports that she asked for money from the long-time Trump ally Eric Deters.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Guilfoyle allegedly asked Deters to pay her large American Express credit card bill in exchange for access to his administration. "Honey please I need you to get this done for me today,” Guilfoyle wrote in one message shared by Deters. Guilfoyle's lawyers, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, denied Guilfoyle did anything wrong and said the money was for payment of services, including speaking engagements and public appearances that occurred before her nomination.

They said in a two-page statement on October 12 that Deters owed Guilfoyle about $150,000 for speeches and consulting work that she performed for him long before her ambassadorship. "Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor and distinction. We are evaluating all available legal remedies to collect this debt and any other potential causes of action," they said.

Vice President JD Vance commented on the allegations last week, saying: "These are allegations... let's actually see what the facts are, let's see what the truth is. And obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.'' President Trump told reporters on Monday that he was "looking at" potentially firing Guilfoyle, adding: "we are not happy." This is a developing story.
