Four U.S. service members were injured during an incident aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower off the coast of Virginia on Monday, the U.S. Navy said a "mishap" occurred aboard the carrier at around 6:18 p.m.
EDT during "aircraft recovery operations." Two of the Navy's aviators ejected from their aircraft and were "promptly recovered by search-and-rescue personnel," the Navy said in a statement. The service did not specify the type of aircraft involved but said the personnel were part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3. Four people aboard the Eisenhower were also injured and have received medical attention, the military said.
One service member was taken to hospital near Norfolk, Virginia, for treatment, but their injuries are not life-threatening, the Navy added.
