Lane Kiffin made his highly-anticipated return to Oxford on Saturday night, taking on his former team as head coach of the LSU Tigers. Kiffin was unable to coach his team to victory in a hostile environment at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, falling to the home-team Rebels with a 32-34 final score. The Tigers outscored Ole Miss 17-8 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Kiffin said this loss would be viewed in a far different light had it been against any other team. He also referred to this matchup as Ole Miss' "Super Bowl." “If it wasn’t for the name, Ole Miss, and if it was more of a traditional name that we were playing, we hadn’t coached at before, how would everybody be feeling if, in your third game of your first year of a program, you went to Ohio State and came all the way back?” Kiffin said during an SEC coaches teleconference, as transcribed by On3 Sports. I’m sure after three games, he would be named the Heisman winner.
