The NBA's next team could have a very nouveau Vegas address. A proposed site could put one of the league's most coveted new franchises closest to the youngest section of the Strip. On Newsweek’s New Destinations event stage, Resorts World Las Vegas President and CFO Carlos Castro made it clear: the future of Las Vegas is the North Strip.
That includes the future location of the home of the NBA’s next team. We have 42 available acres to develop. We already have an integrated resort, and we are ready to go.
We’re shovel-ready,” Castro said on stage. In recent years, the North Strip has seen an influx of new investment, marking it as the newest stretch on the famous stretch of roadway. The Las Vegas Convention Center completed a $1 billion West Hall expansion in 2021 before setting forth on a $600 million campus renovation in December 2025.
Resorts World Las Vegas opened in 2021 followed by The Sphere and Fontainebleau Las Vegas in 2023. The next year the BLVD shopping complex threw open its doors. The North Strip is also already connected to The Boring Company’s Loop transportation infrastructure.
It is the position of Resorts World that an NBA arena would be an anchor of the neighborhood, pushing the area from a series of individual attractions to a more cohesive corridor. Submissions for bids for an expansion team to be located in the city were required to be in to the NBA by mid-September. The league is currently reviewing those bids and is expected to make a decision by the end of the year.
Las Vegas is being considered alongside Seattle for an expansion team, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has confirmed. One of the desert city’s largest obstacles is a lack of arena for a new team to play in. That's something Seattle has.
