Laura Loomer has used the same inflammatory language that sparked backlash over comments about Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon to target another Democratic lawmaker, just days after former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly condemned her remarks as racist. The right-wing activist on Wednesday directed a new attack at Representative LaMonica McIver of New Jersey, calling the Democrat a "ghetto black communist b****" in a post on X. The post came as Loomer continued to face criticism over similar remarks aimed at Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon.
In that dispute, Loomer also mocked Nixon's speech as "Ebonics" and said she needed her "leash" tugged, comments that prompted condemnation from Greene and others. Newsweek has reached out to Loomer and McIver for comment and is awaiting responses. After calling Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon a "ghetto black communist b****" earlier this week, Loomer again used the same comment, this time aimed at McIver, writing on X: "LaMonica McIver is another ghetto black communist b**** who doesn’t belong in Congress." It was not long before McIver hit back on X, saying that she prayed Loomer would get "the help she so deeply and desperately needs." Loomer's remarks quickly drew attention online because they closely mirrored the language that had already generated controversy in the Nixon dispute.
The latest exchange comes just days after Loomer refused to back down from her comments about Nixon. After receiving criticism, Loomer wrote on Sunday: "Is she ghetto? I spoke the truth." The remarks were widely criticized online and prompted a rare rebuke from Greene, who said she "1000 percent" denounced the comments and described them as racist.
Greene also argued that such rhetoric was politically damaging and questioned why Loomer continues to maintain influence within President Donald Trump's political orbit. McIver represents New Jersey in Congress and has become a frequent target of conservative criticism over immigration and law enforcement issues. Loomer's latest comments referenced federal charges stemming from a confrontation outside the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility in Newark in May 2025.
Prosecutors allege McIver assaulted and interfered with federal officers during a clash that unfolded as Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was being arrested. McIver has pleaded not guilty and has repeatedly described the prosecution as politically motivated. The case remains ongoing.
Last month, a federal appeals court largely rejected McIver's effort to have the charges dismissed, ruling that two of the counts can proceed and clearing the way for a trial. McIver had argued that she was protected by the Constitution's Speech or Debate Clause because she was conducting congressional oversight at the facility. The court disagreed, although one charge was sent back to a lower court for further review.
