The Philadelphia 76ers took the court for a preseason matchup against the New York Knicks on Monday night, notching a 120-97 final score. LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey did not play in the preseason win, but fellow starters Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe did. Brown finished the contest with 22 points through 17 minutes of action, while Edgecombe chipped in with 12 points of his own.
During the fourth quarter of Monday's preseason matchup, ESPN broadcaster Mike Breen told a story he heard about a recent 76ers practice. Embiid apparently arrived to practice a couple minutes late, sparking a strong response from James. "Somebody told me before the game that they were out ready to practice and Joel Embiid walked out onto the court a couple minutes late, and LeBron let him hear it," Breen explained.
James signed a two-year, veteran-minimum contract with the 76ers this past offseason, ending the highly-publicized free agency process before his historic 24th NBA campaign. The all-time great NBA superstar has made it very clear that he's pursuing his fifth career NBA championship in Philadelphia. The 76ers will begin their regular-season schedule with another matchup against the Knicks on Oct. 20.
