The Detroit Lions won their third straight game in Week 8, defeating the previously undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, 19-15. The biggest story coming out of the NFC North battle was the health of Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, however. Campbell was carted off the field during the fourth quarter of Sunday's contest after making a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J.
Hockenson and appearing to bend backward awkwardly during the play. The 26-year-old lay on the turf without moving following the tackle, as the coaching staff, medical personnel and teammates checked on him. Campbell was taken to a nearby hospital, evaluated for a neck injury and the team said on Monday that the Iowa product remained at the hospital but "preliminary indications are positive." Lions head coach Dan Campbell discussed the 2025 Pro Bowler's situation on Tuesday as well during his weekly radio appearance on "Costa and Jansen with Heather" on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket.
"It’s not easy because he’s gonna always be on our minds over here," the 50-year-old former NFL tight end said, as transcribed by insider Colton Pouncy of The Athletic. "The good news is he is improving, but we also -- we got a job to do, and this is what we’re tasked with and there’s a reason why we go through all this stuff." The former Hawkeye leads Detroit in tackles (57) this season for the third straight year and has recorded two quarterback hits and one fumble recovery this fall as well. "It’s to get to where we wanna go collectively as a team, and adversity comes in all shapes and sizes and we gotta overcome everything that comes our way," the sixth-year head coach said.
The younger Campbell has played in 62 straight games to begin his NFL career since being selected as the 18th overall pick in 2023. The Lions will play the Miami Dolphins on the road in Week 9 on Sunday afternoon.
