Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs Provides Update After Late-Game Injury Scare

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs provided an update on himself following his late-game injury scare in Week 7.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is no stranger to the end zone. But late in Sunday's Week 7 win over the division-rival Green Bay Packers, it actually made more sense for the superstar ball carrier to stop short of the goal line. With just over a minute remaining in the game, Gibbs rushed for a first down on 3rd-and-6.

He had a clear path to the end zone, but elected to go down inside the 5-yard line so his team could kneel out the clock and win the game. Gibbs crumpled awkwardly while going down to the turf at Ford Field, sparking injury concerns as he limped off the playing surface. When speaking to reporters postgame, Gibbs provided an encouraging update regarding his status.

He said he initially felt pain, but it quickly went away. "I was looking around, like ‘Where is the first down at?’” Gibbs notched 116 yards on 29 carries in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Packers, while also adding 27 receiving yards on five catches. The Lions are now 4-2 to begin the 2026 season.

Detroit will look to maintain its positive momentum into this coming Sunday's Week 8 matchup against the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings.
