London’s Oxford Street will be pedestrianized from Oct. 26

LIVERPOOL, England — A kilometer of London’s iconic Oxford Street will be pedestrianised next month, the capital’s mayor said Monday. Speaking at the POLITICO Pub at Labour Party conference, Sadiq Khan announced parts of the road will be traffic free from Oct. 26 and said he believed this could help revive the popular shopping destination after challenges affected by the rise of online shopping. Tory Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council Tim Barnes warned that businesses “still have a long list of unanswered questions about how it will work,” including issues around access, air pollution, street cleaning and public safety.
