Veteran first baseman Trey Mancini announced his retirement on social media on Tuesday. He spent eight seasons in MLB, playing for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels. "As some of you may have heard, l am officially retiring from professional baseball.

I am blessed to have made a home in the Orioles organization for ten years, win a World Series in Houston, play for the Cubs in Chicago (I wish I played better for you guys), and make it back up to the MLB with the Angels. I'd also like to thank the Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks for giving me opportunities in their organizations. This game has been the focal point of my life since my parents signed me up for T-ball 30 years ago, and I have immense gratitude for everything it has given me.

Thank you to everyone along the way who made it the journey of a lifetime," Mancini wrote on Instagram. Outside of winning a World Series championship with the Astros in 2022, one of the most memorable moments of Mancini's career was when he returned to playing after beating Stage 3 colon cancer. Mancini was diagnosed with cancer in March 2020 at age 27.

He underwent surgery to remove the tumor then went through six months of chemotherapy before ultimately returning to the Orioles in 2021. That season, he earned the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award. After the Cubs released Mancini in August 2023, he spent three years in the minor leagues trying to get back to the Big Leagues.

He accomplished that goal in June when he made his MLB return with the Angels. The Angels sent Mancini outright to Triple-A on June 21 after he played five MLB games with the Halos.
