The Seattle Mariners have added to their depth, as they have signed former New York Mets infielder Andy Ibanez.

According to BeisbolFR's Francys Romero, the Mariners have signed former New York Mets infielder Andy Ibanez to a minor league contract. This comes a few days after the Mets designated him for assignment and then released him. Ibanez has appeared in 14 MLB games this season split between the Athletics and Mets, where he has recorded zero home runs, five RBI, and a .087 batting average.

This comes after he had four home runs, 21 RBI, and a .239 batting average in 91 games for the Detroit Tigers during this past season. Ibanez has spent most of this season down in the minors, though. In 38 minor league games this season, he has posted five home runs, 22 RBI, and a .310 batting average.

Overall, there is no harm in the Mariners bringing in Ibanez with this minor league contract. He will provide their depth with another infielder who has a decent amount of MLB experience, which is never a bad thing. Furthermore, if he impresses during this minor league deal, it could open the door for him to have his contract selected and join Seattle before the season is over.

In 434 career MLB games split between the Texas Rangers, Tigers, A's, and Mets, Ibanez has recorded 28 home runs, 133 RBIs, and a .250 batting average.
