Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is to undergo a heart procedure after the discovery of "a mild benign arrhythmia", Napoli have announced. The 29-year-old was replaced during Sunday's 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como and will have corrective treatment "in the coming days". According to the NHS, an arrhythmia is when the heart beats too quickly or too slowly, or the heartbeat is not steady and may not be serious.

Napoli say McTominay will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation - which the British Heart Foundation explain is when heat or cold energy is used to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals and restore a typical heartbeat. The Italian club expect him to be available again after the international break in early October. However, it means that he is likely to miss Sebastien Pocognoli's first four games as Scotland head coach, against Slovenia (home and away), North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.
