Meghan Markle has paid tribute to her close friend Gloria Steinem in a lengthy Instagram post, revealing how the women’s activist was “even better than you would imagine” in private. Steinem died on Wednesday (2 September) at the age of 92, with her foundation announcing the news in an Instagram post. Hours later, Markle, who considered the activist a close friend and had publicly interviewed her in the past, shared a lengthy social media tribute to her “friend and mentor”.
Sharing a framed photograph of Steinem alongside a child with their face covered (presumably the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Prince Archie), the former Suits star revealed that her private relationship with Steinem went deeper than people knew. The Duchess of Sussex explained that she wore a bracelet bearing Steinem’s words “we are linked, not ranked”, adding how “in these last few weeks and days she knew exactly how loved and admired she was”. Markle continued: “Publicly, we did interviews together, called young voters to encourage them to have their voices heard, attended award ceremonies, and brainstormed how to help this beautiful yet complicated world to become more equitable.
