The Mets should be looking to upgrade their roster after missing the playoffs. However, another reason why the Mets need to be watched closely is because of star infielder Bo Bichette.
Bichetter has an opt-out clause that he can use to leave the Mets and test free agency this offseason. Given how poorly this season went for the Mets, some have naturally wondered if Bichette will opt out of his deal with the team. Yet, the Mets have now gotten a big prediction regarding Bichette that they will be hoping comes true.
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Erik Beaston predicted that Bichette will opt into his contract for the 2027 season and stay with the Mets instead of testing free agency. "His case is, perhaps, the most uncertain of all, but it feels like he has unfinished business in New York. Prediction: Bichette opts in, stays with the Mets," Beaston wrote.
It would undoubtedy be great news for the Mets if Bichette decides to stick around. He is a very important part of their roster and would help their chances of bouncing back next season immensely if he sticks around. However, time will tell what Bichette decides to do with his opt-out clause.
With this year's free agency class being weak, it would also be understandable if he decided to test the market. In 160 games this season for the Mets, Bichette posted 18 home runs, 78 RBI, and a .260 batting average.
