Michael Irvin, Stephen A Smith Make Intriguing Bet on Cowboys’ Season

Stephen A. Smith and Michael Irvin made a bet following the Dallas Cowboys' Week 1 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.

Smith is infamous for his unabashed criticism of the Dallas Cowboys organization. Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin, a three-time Super Bowl champion, is one of the best players of all time to wear a Cowboys uniform. During the most recent episode of ESPN's First Take, these two prominent personalities made a bet regarding the remainder of the Cowboys' 2026 season.

If Dallas doesn't make the NFC Championship game, Smith gets to cut Irvin's hair on the show. "I'm still confident in what the Cowboys have. They have to get it together," Irvin said.

"I will put my locs on the line. ... If [the Dallas Cowboys] don’t get to an [NFC] championship game, I will give up my locs!” The Cowboys suffered a disappointing Week 1 loss to the division-rival New York Giants in primetime on Sunday night. The home-team Giants came out on top with a 28-20 final score, with quarterback Jaxson Dart completing 23 of his 29 pass attempts for 230 yards and three touchdowns.

Dallas QB Dak Prescott completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for just 175 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Cowboys will look to get their season back on track in a Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders next Sunday.
