A breakthrough cancer vaccine developed by Moderna and Merck is fueling hopes that the next revolution in medicine could be as transformative as the arrival of antibiotics, organ transplants or the first targeted cancer drugs. Moderna and Merck announced this week that their Phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial met its primary endpoint of recurrence-free survival and a key secondary endpoint of distant metastasis-free survival in patients with high-risk melanoma whose tumors had been surgically removed. The treatment being studied, intismeran autogene, is a personalized mRNA therapy tailored to each patient's tumor and administered alongside Merck's immunotherapy Keytruda.
