Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts has expanded his off-the-field presence in recent years, but he's still dreaming of bigger and better ventures ahead. Betts, who has recently launched his own brand of baseball gloves and joined the Marvel universe on "Iron Man and His Awesome Friends," is also a face of an advertising campaign for Corona beer, reports Miguel A. Melendez of Men's Journal.
Speaking with Melendez, Betts was asked who he'd like to costar with if he was put in a commercial for the beer brand, something along the lines of what Snoop Dogg did in years past with celebs like Eli Manning, Bad Bunny and Andy Samberg. Apparently, Betts "didn't skip a beat" with his answer, Melendez wrote: Former President Barack Obama. I feel like that’s probably the person I would choose.” As Melendez details, Obama did pretty much exactly this with Anthony Bourdain in a Vietnam-set episode of Bourdain's "Parts Unknown." Obama, when relaxed like he was in Hanoi, would certainly fit in well in a Corona ad campaign.
That said, Obama does not have a history of endorsing products, especially alcohol, so it might be a bit of a stretch to think it could ever happen. But perhaps the former president and Betts could sit down in another format. Betts' podcast, "On Base," could be the perfect venue.
After all, Obama is a noted sports fan, and while he's not a Dodgers fan — he prefers the Chicago White Sox — he surely would want to swap stories with the future Hall of Famer Betts. Maybe Betts, a stellar bowler, could even offer some tips for the former president on his other podcast, which is called "Day Ones" and has Betts and his guests bowl as they talk. Whichever route Obama would want to go, it seems Betts can make it work.
All that remains is for the former president to say yes.
