Romania has said that two Spanish F-18 jets were scrambled after an aerial target was detected near its border with Ukraine.
NATO scrambled fighter jets after a suspected unmanned aerial vehicle approached Romania as fears grow that Russia's war against Ukraine could spill into NATO territory. Romania's defense ministry said on Tuesday that two Spanish Air and Space Force F-18 jets were scrambled from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base 57 after an aerial target was detected around two miles east of Vylkove, located on Ukraine's border with Romania. Residents in the north of Romania's Tulcea County were warned about the possibility of falling objects and urged to take shelter.
The defense ministry did not specify whether the suspected drone entered Romanian airspace. This is a developing story.
