The North Carolina State Wolfpack had one of the most gut-wrenching losses in Week 3 college football action. NC State suffered a 35-31 defeat against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday when Wolfpack quarterback CJ Bailey lost a fumble in his team's end zone as time expired in the fourth quarter. Bailey discussed the shocking miscue with reporters on Wednesday.
The junior signal-caller had been having a solid game prior to the disastrous final play. Bailey finished the contest 25-for-37 with 275 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while adding nine rushing attempts for 35 yards. The trio of scores through the air were one off Bailey's career high and his most since he recorded three passing touchdowns last October against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Bailey's gone 50-for-77 with 640 passing yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions across three contests this season for the 1-2 Wolfpack while contributing 25 carries for 93 yards and one touchdown. The third-year starter's also averaging career highs in yards gained per pass attempt (8.3) and yards gained per pass completion (12.8) during the 2026 campaign. NC State will look to bounce back in Week 4 when it hosts the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday night.
