Netflix’s much-anticipated release of in-game footage from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has proved so popular that the streaming service struggled to copy with demand. The game is not set to go on sale until November 19, and fans have been clamoring for a peek at how the game will look. However, many social media users reported that their wait continues after the streamer buckled under the pressure.
One X user wrote: “GTA page on Netflix is down! Managed to access it for 10 seconds, got to see the preview of it and from what I saw, well let's just say the gameplay looks gorgeous!” Another added a pained reaction GIF and said: “GTA VI trailer extended look is here but Netflix crashed and the video is lagging.” A third added simply: “Bro Netflix is not working.” Netflix had earlier talked up the gameplay reveal, with Brandon Riegg, VP of Nonfiction Series, saying in a statement: “Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first.” He added: “It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.” Earlier this week Rockstar Games, the developers of the game, spoke out after a series of dramatic leaks.

The company appeared to confirm that the “heartbreaking” leaks were legitimate and apologised to players that they had been introduced to the upcoming game through the footage. In recent days, clips and photos showing both gameplay and cutscenes from GTA 6 have appeared online, from a group calling itself Cyberleek. They showed detailed footage from inside the game and some of the videos appeared to suggest that the leakers had actual access to the game itself.
It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time,” Rockstar said in a statement. Rockstar went on to say that it was sorry it had taken so long to release official details and footage from the game, but that “we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and deserve”. It said it was “unfortunate” that some parts of the game might now have been spoiled, and thanked those who had “reached out with message of support” to the developers.
