Dark Horse is also launching a Dark Sun graphic novel trilogy

Larian Studios’ smash hit RPG Baldur's Gate 3 is packed with rich characters, but the clear fan favorite is the vampire spawn rogue Astarion Ancunín. The sassy undead heartthrob already got a prequel novel written by Nettle & Bone author T. Kingfisher (aka Ursula Vernon), and now he’s starring in an ongoing comic series announced at New York Comic Con.

The first six issues of Baldur’s Gate 3 will follow Astarion after he frees himself from the influence of his vampire master Cazador Szarr during the events of the game. New trouble is brewing in Waterdeep, and Astarion has to investigate a string of ritual murders before he becomes the killer’s next victim. The story will be written by Alyssa Wong (Deadpool), penciled by Vincenzo Carratù (Hulk: Smash Everything), inked by Elisabetta D’Amico (Avengers Assemble), colored by Valentina Taddeo (Werewolf by Night), and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin (The Flash).

There will be five variant covers including art from Gerald Parel, Scott Fischer, Angela Wu, and Tyler Walpole. Baldur’s Gate 3 will continue with a 12-issue arc starring the tiefling barbarian Karlach as she travels through the Nine Hells. That story will be written by Becky Cloona (Gotham Academy) and illustrated by Francesco Scimonelli (Dick Tracy).

Wizards of the Coast is returning to Dungeons & Dragons' post-apocalyptic setting Dark Sun in 2027. Dark Horse is also heading to the wasteland of Athas for a trilogy of standalone graphic novels. The first will follow Tikat, a Thri-kreen gladiator trying to protect his friend Wik from a powerful psionic.

Joined by the cannibal Kavora, the unlikely party has to escape the city of Tyr, cutting through hordes of bloodthirsty enemies as they try to unmask their mysterious foe. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun is written by Dan Abnett (Warhammer 40,000), illustrated by Nil Vendrell (The Witcher), colored by Mattia Iacono (Spider-Woman), and lettered by Buddy Beaudoin (The Flash), with cover art by Jeff Stokely (The Spire). The first issue of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available Feb. 24, though readers can get a sneak peek as part of Dungeons & Dragons #2 on Jan. 6.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun Volume 1 will be released in April 2027.
