The NFL announced Friday that San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was being suspended for six games and fined $500,000.

On the field, everything has gone right for the San Francisco 49ers through the early part of the 2026 NFL season. Off of it, the Niners have been mired in one controversy after another in recent months. The latest update on one of the scandals came Friday, when the NFL announced that 49ers owner Jed York had been suspended six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The NFL also fined York $500,000. The punishment stems from York's August arrest on suspicion of engaging in prostitution in Ohio. He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.

The 46-year-old released a statement following the NFL's decision on Friday, saying that he takes "full responsibility" for his "inexcusable mistake." York has been San Francisco's CEO in 2008 and became the principal owner ahead of the 2024 season. The 49ers have made the playoffs eight times during York's tenure with the organization and appeared in three Super Bowls, losing each time they advanced to the big game. Despite dealing with a host of injuries this fall, San Francisco enters its Week 4 contest against the Denver Broncos at 3-0 and one of just five undefeated teams left in the NFL.
