The Baltimore Ravens are facing a late decision on one of their most important offensive weapons. Wide receiver Zay Flowers will go through a pregame workout before Baltimore takes on the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The workout will help determine whether he can play through his hamstring injury.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that: "Ravens are working out WR Zay Flowers pre game to determine whether he can play with his hamstring injury vs. the Cowboys. One source called it a ''true pre-game decision”, but the team doesn’t sound as if it is counting on him playing." Flowers missed Baltimore's Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints after suffering the hamstring issue during the first half of the Ravens' Week 1 win over the Indianapolis Colts. His absence would be significant.
Flowers opened the season with five catches for 150 yards and a touchdown against Indianapolis. He also had 86 catches for 1,211 yards last season, making him a major part of Baltimore's passing attack. The Ravens enter Sunday's matchup at 1-1.
The Cowboys also sit at 1-1. Dallas is coming off a 37-20 victory over Washington, while Baltimore suffered a 24-17 defeat against New Orleans. There is also concern surrounding the field where the game will be played.
The Maracana Stadium surface has faced criticism ahead of the NFL’s first game in Rio. NFLPA executive director J.C. Tretter said union experts believed the field needed better traction and stability.
The NFL has since said improvements were made. NFL field director Nick Pappas told reporters, “Things check out. No need to worry.” He said an independent inspector and an NFLPA representative evaluated the surface before additional work was completed.
