Chad Ryland kicked a winning 42-yard field goal in overtime after missing a PAT that would have won the game with six seconds left in regulation, and the Arizona Cardinals rallied for a wild victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The Cardinals beat Dallas for the fifth consecutive time and improved to 5-0 at AT+T Stadium, the home of the Cowboys that opened in 2009. This was by far the most crushing of those for the Cowboys (3-5), who didn’t trail until the final kick and led by two touchdowns early in the fourth quarter.
Arizona (3-5) were still in the game because Tyler Allgeier had a 63-yard touchdown run, a career long, followed by a 50-yarder to set up his second touchdown on a five-yard catch, all in the second half. He had 191 scrimmage yards (147 yards rushing, 44 receiving), all but seven coming after half-time. The Dallas defense was having its best showing of the season before buckling in the last 16 minutes, particularly the final minute.
The Cardinals went 80 yards in eight plays after taking over with 1:05 left in regulation, tying the score at 30-30 on Gardner Minshew’s 14-yard touchdown to Michael Wilson with six seconds to go. Ryland was wide left on the PAT kick after making his previous 58. Malcolm Roach sacked Patrick Mahomes on the final play, securing Denver’s comeback win over Kansas City.
The victory puts the Broncos (6-2) in first place in the AFC West. Denver trailed 24-13 in the third quarter, but Bo Nix threw a 2-yard TD pass and a twp-point conversion to close the gap. After Kansas City’s Harrison Butker missed a crucial field goal, Denver quickly took the lead.
Mahomes had a chance to respond for the Chiefs (5-2) but was stopped at the goalline in the final seconds. Nix finished with 222 yards and two touchdowns, while Mahomes had 320 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Allen set the franchise record for career touchdown passes and also rushed for a score and the Buffalo Bills took advantage of multiple Baltimore quarterback injuries to notch victory over the Ravens.
The Ravens (4-4) lost quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (right thumb) and Tyler “Snoop” Huntley (right toe) in the first half while dropping their third straight game. Jackson missed the previous three games with a left ankle injury. Ravens coach Jesse Minter said after the game that Jackson needs surgery on the injured thumb and his season could be over.
