Jeremiah Smith continues to show why he's considered one of the best players in college football. On Saturday, the Ohio State wide receiver strengthened his Heisman Trophy campaign with a ridiculous performance — reeling in 12 catches for 217 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-19 win over Illinois. Smith now has 617 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns through the first four games of the Buckeyes' 2026 season.
Legendary college football coach Nick Saban is one of the many prominent figures to heap praise on Smith as he continues his absurd collegiate career. Saban even compared Smith to one of his former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receivers: Julio Jones. "He's one of the most dominant players in college football," Saban said on the Rich Eisen Show.
"That guy is big and strong. I thought Julio Jones was kind of one of a kind back in the day when we had him, but this guy reminds me of him in a lot of ways. He's going to have a fantastic career — he's had a fantastic career as a college player." Smith led the Big Ten with 1,315 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns as a true freshman.
Last year, he recorded another 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns. Smith and Ohio State will take the field for a matchup against the No. 14 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes this coming Saturday.
