Saturday's injury to Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore was one of the scariest seen so far this college football season. During the second quarter versus the USC Trojans, Moore was running down the field for a big first down play, but as he slid, his head was hit late by USC's Desman Stephens II. The Trojan was given a targeting flag and was ejected from the game.
Moore, on the other hand, was put on a backboard and carted off the field. He was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital in Los Angeles. As he was being taken off the field, Moore was noted to be moving his extremities.
Although it was clear this was a severe injury for Moore, the Ducks received good news on Sunday. According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer, the quarterback suffered a concussion, but he luckily didn't appear to suffer any additional injuries. This means Moore will go through concussion protocol, but is expected to return this season.
There is not an exact timeline for his return. Moore's status versus the UCLA Bruins for Saturday, Oct. 10 is still up in the air. Dylan Raiola, who stepped in for Moore in Saturday's 41–27 win over the Trojans, would be slated to start if Moore hasn't cleared protocol by then.
Raiola was a good replacement for Moore, completing 19-of-25 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns. He was the starting quarterback for the Nebraska Huskers the past two seasons before transferring to Oregon this offseason. Stephens was dealt a one-game suspension by USC for the hit on Moore.
He will miss the Saturday, Oct. 3 contest versus Washington.
