The Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys by a 23-13 final score in their Week 6 matchup. Now, the Packers have added one of the Cowboys' former first-round picks after defeating them in their last game. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the Packers have signed former Cowboys defensive tackle Mazi Smith to their practice squad ahead of their Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions.
This was shortly after Smith tried out for Green Bay. With this move, the Packers have added another defensive tackle with NFL experience to their depth in Smith. There is no harm in the Packers taking a chance on the former first-round pick, and he will now be aiming to impress on their practice squad.
If he does, perhaps it could lead to him being elevated to their active roster soon. Smith was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 26th overall. In 43 career NFL games over four seasons split between the Cowboys, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins, he has recorded 2.0 sacks to go along with 57 combined tackles.
It will now be interesting to see if Smith can get into game action with the Packers after landing on their practice squad from here.
