A Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers wasn't enough to sell one ESPN analyst on the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay earned a 27-19 victory at Lambeau Field behind 288 passing yards and three touchdowns from Jordan Love. The Packers have recovered from a 1-2 start to win four of their last five games, but they can still finish the weekend last in a loaded NFC North.
Following the "Thursday Night Football" win, Peter Schrager questioned Green Bay's status alongside the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions. "The Lions and the Vikings might be better than the Packers," Schrager said on Friday morning's Get Up. "I look at the Lions, who beat the Packers this week, and I look at the Vikings, who are undefeated and are averaging 12 points against them ... which is historically amazing.
I can't dismiss those teams. I might make the argument the Packers are still the fourth team in their own division." On the other hand, Dan Orlovsky still likes the 5-3 Packers more than the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings because he doesn't trust the Kyler Murray-led offense. "Right now, I would take Green Bay over Minnesota strictly because I just don't have, I have zero faith in Minnesota," Orlovsky said.
ESPN noted that the Packers have the seventh-shortest odds to win the NFC on DraftKings Sportsbook, but they trail their three division cohorts. Although they have better odds than any team in the NFC East or South, the conference's uneven distribution of power could make it difficult to secure one of three wild-card spots. The Packers have already lost to the Vikings and Lions on the road, and they beat the Bears without Caleb Williams.
They'll play their next division game against Minnesota in Week 10.
