Panthers' Dave Canales Delivers 'Very Confident' Update on RB Jonathon Brooks

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales provided a "very confident" injury update for running back Jonathon Brooks.

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks was listed as limited with a groin injury for Wednesday's practice as the team prepares for its Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Brooks, a second-round pick from the 2024 draft, has an extensive injury history in his young NFL career. The RB missed almost all of his rookie campaign with a torn ACL injury that he suffered near the end of his final collegiate season with the Texas Longhorns.

In his third NFL game back from that injury, he tore the same ACL. Brooks missed the entire 2025 season, but is finally primed to take the field in 2026. On Wednesday, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said he's "very confident" Brooks will take the field for Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Bears.

Chuba Hubbard, who suffered a hamstring strain during training camp, carried no injury designation for Wednesday's practice. Brooks is listed as the No. 2 running back behind Hubbard on the Panthers' depth chart. The Panthers will kick off against the Bears at 1 p.m.
