Nine months removed from the torn ACL/LCL injury he suffered during Week 15 of the 2025 season, Patrick Mahomes returned to the field for the Kansas City Chiefs' season-opening matchup against the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Mahomes surgically-repaired left knee looked good upon his return. The Chiefs' superstar quarterback kicked off the scoring with a rushing touchdown on a QB scramble, showing supreme confidence in his ability to move.
Mahomes finished Monday night's dominant 31-10 victory with 184 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, 23 rushing yards and one rushing score. Mahomes was asked about the current state of his leg when speaking to reporters on Wednesday. It’s a blessing and a curse, you get sore everywhere else because you haven't played football in so long.
The leg is like the least of my worries right now," Mahomes said. "I'm just excited to be out there and playing. ... I feel good today." “If I was going to say I was nervous for anything, it was getting hit on it, but I just wanted to play," Mahomes said after Monday night's win.
"I’ve done so much rehab and so much work to put myself in this position. This is what you do it for." Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to continue their positive momentum into Sunday night's Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
