The New England Patriots will have second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson back in the fold for Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 2025 second-round draft pick missed the team's Week 1 loss versus the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle injury but returned to practice on Monday. Henderson was a full participant in Wednesday's session and should be a huge boost to the Patriots' running game Sunday afternoon against the Steelers.
New England's rushing attack largely struggled during the 13-10 defeat in Week 1, as starter Rhamondre Stevenson collected just 51 yards on 18 carries, though he added five receptions for 44 receiving yards. Undrafted second-year player Corey Kiner had 11 rushing yards on six attempts and quarterback Drake Maye was the most efficient on his carries, recording seven carries for 47 yards. Brown suffered a high ankle sprain vs.
Seattle and has been placed on injured reserve, making Henderson's return to the lineup that much more crucial. The latter was arguably the Patriots' most explosive offensive weapon during the 2025 season with touchdown runs of 69, 65, 55, and 52 yards. Henderson ended the regular season with team highs in rushing attempts (180), rushing yards (911), rushing touchdowns (nine), touches (215) and yards from scrimmage (1,132).
He also played in all of New England's 21 games (including the playoffs) and finished third in the NFL's AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Fellow wideout and offseason acquisition Romeo Doubs will also be an important piece to the Patriots' offense on Sunday in Brown's absence. Doubs was shut out in his Patriots debut, failing to catch any of his three targets from Maye.
