Gonzalez has been mired in a contract dispute with the organization all offseason, with reports stating that contract language has kept the two sides far apart, but that hasn't stopped his teammates from heaping praise on him.
Drake Maye called him the best cornerback in the league. Marcus Jones said he was a great player but an even better person. Brown said he has nothing but respect for the fourth-year player after battling with him throughout training camp.
Kevin Byard might have had the highest praise of all, though: "I'm excited to play with this whole secondary, but obviously you got the best corner in the league in my opinion," Byard said on Sunday, per Patriots Wire's Sophie Weller. "He’s the best player I've ever played with as far as the corner position, it's going to drastically kinda change how I see things and how he sees things. Super excited to be able to play with him." Byard has played with some damn good cornerbacks, too.
Jason McCourty, Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, James Bradberry, Darius Slay, Jaylon Johnson, and Nahshon Wright? The Patriots now need to figure out how to lock him up.
