The Boston Celtics are entering a new era following the blockbuster trade that sent longtime franchise superstar Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this offseason. In exchange for Brown, the Celtics received multiple future draft picks and veteran forward Paul George. George, 36, is entering his 17th NBA season.
Last year, the nine-time All-Star averaged 17.3 points per game for the 76ers. George is committed to giving his all for the Celtics — his fifth different NBA team. I’m looking forward to the journey.
I’m looking forward to wearing that green and representing for Boston," George said in a YouTube video posted by the Celtics on Sunday. Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens is excited about George's arrival in Boston. He’s one of the more impactful players with regard to winning, even as he’s aged in the NBA.
We just think he’s a good fit for how we play, and I think the other part about Paul is he’s very smart. He has a good feel for the game; he’s got a good savvy to him about the game, and I think that fits in with the rest of our lineup.” The Celtics will begin their regular-season schedule with a matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 20.
