Phantom Blade Zero Will Get a Physical Release, But There's a Catch

Phantom Blade Zero will have a physical edition, but it will not be available on launch day.

With an increasing number of video game publishers moving away from physical releases, fans were worried that this would be the case with Phantom Blade Zero. Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that Phantom Blade Zero will, in fact, get a physical release.

However, it will only be available a few months after launch. Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming wuxia action RPG developed by S-Game, the Beijing-based studio known for the Rainblood series. The combat is heavily inspired by real-world martial arts techniques — the developers even brought in action movie star Donnie Yen as a consultant to help with combat design — and by soulslike games.

Phantom Blade Zero is set to release on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Epic Games Store on Oct. 28. With only a few days left until the launch of Phantom Blade Zero, players were left wondering if there would be a physical edition at any point. They needn't wonder any longer, as S-Game has now announced that Phantom Blade Zero will get a PS5 physical release, but it will only come out in 2027.

It may be disappointing to get confirmation that there won't be a physical edition on day one, but it was expected considering that only digital pre-orders were made available throughout the game's promotional run. Nowadays, buying the physical edition does not mean players get an actual physical copy of the game. Many modern physical releases simply consist of an empty box with a code to redeem the game.

Thankfully, that will not be the case; Phantom Blade Zero's physical edition will include a disc. There will be three physical editions of Phantom Blade Zero. The standard edition is expected to cost $59.99 and includes a copy of the base game.

The deluxe edition should cost $69.99 and include a digital art book, the soundtrack, and the Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel form skins. Lastly, there's the Ultimate Edition, which features a collectible steel book; it has no digital equivalent, so its price and contents remain unknown. It has not been confirmed if the physical editions will include any pre-order bonuses.
