Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have moved their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to a new school just days after they began the new academic year in the UK, following concerns raised by the family’s security team. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children reportedly spent only two days at their original school before Harry and Meghan made the decision to withdraw them. The move was prompted by concerns over the practicalities of getting Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, safely to and from school.
One incident is also understood to have made it difficult for the security vehicles to remain together, raising further concerns about whether the journey could be managed safely on a daily basis. A spokesperson for the Sussexes told Newsweek, “The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.” Archie and Lilibet have now visited another school in the area for a taster session.
Prince Harry was reportedly seen settling Lilibet into reception, while the couple have already been added to parents’ WhatsApp groups. The sudden school change comes as security remains a major issue for the Sussexes during their extended return to the UK. Harry has been seeking changes to his security arrangements since stepping back as a working royal, and his legal battle over police protection ultimately ended with his Court of Appeal defeat in 2025.
Meghan has also recently been granted her first government-backed security review since the couple stepped down from royal duties in 2020. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee is understood to be examining the couple’s current circumstances, including their daily routines and school arrangements. The family announced in August that they would be spending an extended period in the UK, with Archie and Lilibet subsequently enrolled at a school near their new base.
The latest move highlights the extent to which security considerations continue to influence the Sussexes’ family life in Britain, even as they settle into their new UK routine.
