Producers United is joining groups like the MPA and DGA to urge the nation’s lawmakers to back the proposed federal tax incentive for film and television production to “protect American workers and foster sustainable careers.” The coalition of film and television producers released its statement at the start of Labor Day weekend, which “recognizes the contributions of American workers to the country’s strength and prosperity.” The push for a federal tax incentive to counter the increase in productions outside the U.S. in recent years gained steam Monday when President Trump renewed his endorsement of the idea and called for a bipartisan bill. The federal tax incentive is one of the rare initiatives that is supported by both Democratic and Republican politicians and in Hollywood. Trump dubbed the proposed legislation the Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act.
Charles Rivkin, head of the Motion Picture Association, offered his support after Trump’s statement, and the DGA has also been urging the studios to lobby for legislation.
