The Las Vegas Raiders will be without Brock Bowers in their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday after the tight end had a meniscus trim this week. The knee issue started in training camp with Bowers feeling a little banged up. Typically, the injury can take anywhere from four to six weeks before a player is ready to return for game day, but Bowers could be on the mend a little faster than normal.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Las Vegas thinks Bowers could return as soon as its contest against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2, though that decision is not set in stone. "Team will see how he’s feeling this week, but a potential return next week is within the realm of possibility." Raiders first-year head coach Klint Kubiak faced some heat last week when he told reporters he expected Bowers to play against the Dolphins on Sunday, only for news to break later that the tight end was expected to miss a couple of weeks due to the meniscus trim.
On Friday, Kubiak told reporters he was optimistic Bowers would play against the Dolphins and wasn't trying to mislead anyone on the tight end's status for Sunday. Mayer signed a three-year contract extension worth $45 million with Las Vegas last week. He has 83 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns in his career.
