The Los Angeles Rams were hoping to get a special teams boost with the addition of place kicker Blake Grupe, who replaced Harrison Mevis following his release last week. But during the first half of Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Grupe suffered a game-ending injury while attempting to tackle the kick returner. The 27-year-old kicker was spotted leaving SoFi Stadium on crutches with a brace on his leg.
Los Angeles suffered an 18-16 loss to the Cardinals, dropping their 2026 season record to 2-4. Punter Ethan Evans served as the Rams' replacement kicker following Grupe's injury, going 1/1 on his lone extra point attempt. The Rams placed Grupe on the injured reserve Monday — meaning they're now on the hunt for a new kicker for the second time in two weeks.
The Rams released Mevis after his game-winning field goal attempt against the Buffalo Bills was blocked in Week 5. The team could either bring Mevis back, or hit the free-agent market for a new place kicker option. Los Angeles will look to get its 2026 season back on track in a Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday.
