The New York Rangers' season opener against the Boston Bruins is rapidly approaching, and they have placed multiple players on waivers because of it. According to PuckPedia, the Rangers have placed Urho Vaakanainen, Juuso Parssinen, Dennis Cholowski, and Justin Dowling on waivers. Out of these four players, Vaakanainen is the most notable.
The 27-year-old defenseman played in 34 games last season for New York, where he recorded six assists. This was after the 2017 first-round pick recorded two goals, 16 points, and a plus-8 rating in 51 games split between the Anaheim Ducks and Rangers in 2024-25. Parssinen appeared in 20 games last season for the Rangers, where he posted two goals, one assist, and a plus-4 rating.
He also recorded five goals and seven points in 15 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack during the 2025-26 season. Cholowski split this past season between the New Jersey Devils and the AHL's Utica Comets. In 17 games with the Devils, he recorded two assists.
Down in the AHL with Utica, the 2016 first-round pick posted five assists. As for Dowling, he had zero points in two games last season with the Rangers. He played most of the season in the AHL with Hartford, however, posting nine goals and 29 points in 46 games.
It will now be interesting to see if the Rangers end up losing any of these players on waivers from here.
