Just when the Baltimore Ravens thought they couldn't get any more bad news on Sunday, they were proven wrong. Lamar Jackson made his return after missing the last three games with a high ankle sprain, but he suffered a thumb injury on the first play of the game against the Buffalo Bills. He was ruled out for the game.
Since the game ended, it was announced that Jackson will undergo thumb surgery and be placed on the injured reserve list, meaning he'll miss at least the next four games. This was not the news the Ravens wanted to hear. Tyler Huntley came in to replace Jackson on Sunday, but he was injured in the first half as he was ruled out with a toe injury.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported after the game that Huntley's injury is believed to be a turf toe, which wouldn't be ideal for the Ravens. Huntley will undergo an MRI on Monday to reveal the severity of his injury. Depending how serious the injury is, there's a chance he could miss a good chunk of time like Jackson.
Otherwise, if the turf toe is a minor case, he could be back in no time. If Huntley does miss some time, then the Ravens could turn to third-string Joe Fagnano, who made his NFL debut on Sunday. The undrafted rookie quarterback completed 10-of-21 passes for 91 yards and one interception.
It wasn't an ideal debut, and it would be risky for Baltimore to rely on Fagnano moving forward. The team's fourth-string quarterback Skyler Thompson is on the IR right now, too. The Ravens would be smart to look at the quarterback market ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
Baltimore has a quick turnaround this week, too, as they'll face the Jacksonville Jaguars on "Thursday Night Football." There's a lot to figure out before then.
