Underlying metrics show that 31 percent of Americans now identify outright as Democrats, while 25 percent identify as Republicans, and 44 percent identify as independents.
The six-point gap between Democrats and Republicans is the largest Democratic advantage in Gallup's measure since the second quarter of 2015.
