Where these waters meet and stagnate, they form something remarkable: an amoeba-shaped salt pond, its waters so saline that only the hardiest microbes survive.

We watched this pond evolve over decades using satellite imagery stretching back to 1973. What began as a crescent-shaped water body has transformed into something entirely different—a testament to how dynamic these systems truly are.
