The Philadelphia Eagles received an encouraging update on Saquon Barkley's injury ahead of their matchup with the Jaguars.

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a 24-20 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, which also included their loss of Saquon Barkley to an early injury. During the game's first quarter, Barkley suffered a hamstring injury on a six-yard run to the left side. He limped over to the sidelines, where he was evaluated by medical staff, and didn't return to the game.

Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley handled the running back duties from there, with Bigsby getting 55 yards on 14 carries and Shipley recording 23 yards on six carries. The Eagles did the bulk of their scoring in the game's second quarter, with quarterback Jalen Hurts finding Darius Cooper for two touchdowns. They were then held scoreless for the second half, as Matthew Stafford and the Rams scored two touchdowns in the final quarter to win the game.

According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, "Barkley is considered week-to-week," and this is "not considered to be a long-term injury." Barkley has 36 carries for 182 yards this season, but has yet to score a touchdown. Losing him for a significant stretch of the season would be problematic, as he's been a major part of their offense since he signed with Philadelphia in 2024.

He played in 16 games in each of the past two seasons, with 2024 including a career-best 2,001 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. That culminated in the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, but the team hasn't seemed close to the same since. So far this season, the Eagles have struggled, with a 2-2 record.

They defeated the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans, two teams that have also been struggling to win. Philadelphia has since lost back-to-back games to the Chicago Bears and the Rams. Things probably won't get much easier, as they're heading to Jacksonville for Week 5 to take on Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars.

On Sunday, Lawrence and company defeated the Cincinnati Bengals to improve their record to 3-1 this season. More news: Bears Make Quarterback Decision Ahead of Week 5 Clash With Packers For more about the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
