Marcel Reed had a rough day against Kentucky in Week 3, going 26 of 49 passing for 236 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He added 80 yards and a score on the ground in Texas A&M's 31-21 loss to Kentucky at home.
The Aggies were ranked No. 9 entering the contest against a one-loss Kentucky, but fell to No. 23 in this week's rankings. Some fans didn't respond well to the loss. "I kind of had a feeling it happened, because I got calls like back to back to back to back," Reed said. "I’m pretty sure I got called from like 18 different states. But I didn’t answer a single one.
"Some you would see like the new voicemail thing, you can see like the words at the bottom. So I eventually turned my phone off and just ended up watching college football for the rest of the night. I didn’t pay any mind to it." Reed could face more heat depending on how the outcome of Texas A&M's contest with No. 10 LSU goes on Saturday night.
The Tigers and Aggies are coming off a loss in Week 3, and the loser will face a near-impossible challenge to make the College Football Playoff with a second loss before the end of September. The Aggies made the CFP last season, but lost in the first round to Miami. Texas A&M had started the season 11-0, but finished the campaign with two consecutive losses.
Reed faced criticism for his play in the loss to Texas and Miami. In May, Reed told participants at a youth camp that he doesn't lose to LSU. A win would certainly bring a sigh of relief to the Aggies fan base.
