It’s hard to picture things being any worse than they are now for the Arkansas Razorbacks. After starting the season with a 31-14 win over North Alabama, Arkansas has posted back-to-back blowout losses to No. 20 Utah (43-10) and No. 2 Georgia (45-17) in head coach Ryan Silverfield’s first year with the program. And while Silverfield may get some time to figure out how to turn the program around, the same can’t be said for athletic director Hunter Yurachek.
In fact, the Arkansas Board of Trustees just announced a formal review of the school’s athletic department to “evaluate the resources available to the football program and identify potential steps that could improve their competitiveness moving forward,” according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Many believe that Yurachek’s job could be on the line pending the outcome of the review. And if he’s not on the hot seat right now, he presumably will be after what happened during the Arkansas-Georgia game on Saturday as fans sent a clear message about how they felt about Yurachek when they boycotted the game against the Bulldogs.
A video posted by Anthony Dasher of UGAsports.com showing an empty parking lot outside the stadium with the caption: “Two hours before the game walking to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium” went viral. The post has garnered 3.4 million views, 482 reposts, and 3,600 likes in 12 hours, showing just how dire the state of Arkansas football is right now.
Another video posted by Brandon Adams of DawgNation Daily went viral as well. The clip, which shows a desolate Razorback stadium with the caption “There is NOBODY here 10 mins prior to kickoff. These fans weren’t bluffing” has 3.3 million views and nearly 5,000 likes in a little over 10 hours.
Fans have been upset with the job Yurachek has done for some time, and the calls for him to be fired on social media keep growing by the week.
