Actress Selma Blair was arrested Sunday after allegedly trying to open an aircraft door mid-flight and attacking two flight attendants aboard a Delta flight, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another Sunday while the plane was traveling to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Two flight attendants reported injuries, and one was hospitalized, the Port Authority told TMZ. A Delta spokesperson told Newsweek via email that the incident occurred aboard Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York on October 11 and that law enforcement responded when the flight arrived at JFK. The airline said the flight landed ahead of schedule and was not operationally affected.
TMZ reported that Blair was accused of assaulting a nurse after arriving at a hospital for evaluation. She was charged with two counts of assault stemming from alleged incidents involving a police officer and the nurse. Blair’s representative told TMZ that she experienced a “medical emergency” that led to the alleged conduct and was in stable condition.
The FBI told Newsweek that it is responsible for investigating all assaults aboard aircraft. "Yesterday, we were informed by our partners at Port Authority Police Department of a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived into JFK," a spokesperson said. "As per long-standing DOJ policy, we do not comment on ongoing investigations." Newsweek has reached out to Blair's representatives, the TSA, and Delta via email on Monday afternoon for comment.
