Spider-Man: Brand New Day has set yet another impressive record in the U.S. box office. The Marvel blockbuster, which stars Tom Holland as the web-slinging superhero, is now the fastest movie to cross the $900 million threshold in domestic theaters. The sum was made in just 36 days, which beats the 50 day record set by 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
As reported by Variety, the Marvel-Sony project is projected to make $22 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend, pushing beyond its domestic total to $922 million. It is only a matter of time before the movie knocks The Force Awakens off the top spot to become the highest-grossing domestic release of all time. The record is currently set at $936 million.
This isn’t the first box office record that the Tom Holland flick has broken — and it won’t be the last. After just three weekends of being released, the blockbuster broke the $2 billion mark at the global box office, becoming just the eighth film to reach that milestone. The seven other films that have made over $2 billion at the box office are: 2009’s Avatar ($2.9 billion), 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion), 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion), 1997’s Titanic ($2.2 billion), 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.07 billion) and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War ($2.03 billion).
The previous installment in the Spider-Man franchise, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, narrowly missed out on the landmark by finishing with a total box office of $1.9 billion. Brand New Day has now surpassed $2.33 billion at the global box office, making it the third highest-grossing movie of all time behind Avatar ($2.9 billion ) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7 billion). Brand New Day overtook the 2022 film Avatar: The Way of Water, which made $2.3 billion at the global box office.
