The Denver Broncos opened up their 2026 regular-season campaign with a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night. The Broncos failed to deliver in primetime, suffering a 31-10 defeat at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium. Quarterback Bo Nix completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and J.K.
Dobbins led the team in rushing with a measly 36 yards. The Broncos' defense, which was one of the league's best units in 2025, allowed Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense to walk all over them. Running back Kenneth Walker III had an outstanding debut outing in Kansas City, recording 191 total yards and two touchdowns.
During Tuesday morning's episode of "First Take," Stephen A. Smith blasted the Broncos for their "trash" performance. "I expected a hell of a lot more from the Denver Broncos than what I saw," Smith said.
"Denver looked like trash last night." The Broncos will look to bounce back in their Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars this coming Sunday. That Jaguars-Broncos matchup will kick off at 4:05 p.m. ET from Denver's Empower Field at Mile High Stadium.
