Stephen Curry Injury Update Gives Clarity For Warriors-Lakers NBA Season-Opener

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr provided a big injury update on star guard Stephen Curry Monday afternoon.

The Golden State Warriors begin their 2026-27 regular season on Wednesday night versus the Los Angeles Lakers. Warriors guard Stephen Curry suffered an ankle injury during the team's practice on Sunday but head coach Steve Kerr said that the two-time NBA MVP will suit up against the Lakers. Curry was limited to 43 games last season, due in large part to a knee injury, and Golden State missed the playoffs for just the fourth time since Kerr took over in 2014.

The Warriors also saw six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler go down with a season-ending torn ACL in January and former No. 14 overall draft pick Moses Moody suffer a ruptured left patellar tendon in March, which ended his campaign as well. Golden State is hoping to have both Butler and Moody back in the lineup at some point this winter. Curry (26.6 points per game) and Butler (20.0) were the Warriors' two leading scorers last season, while Moody led the group's regulars in three-point shooting at 40.1%.

"Steph" finished the campaign with a career-low 4.7 assists per game, as well as 3.6 rebounds and 30.9 minutes per contest and a .468/.393/.923 shooting line. Curry also earned his 12th career All-Star nod. The Warriors will face the Lakers on the road Wednesday night in Los Angeles' first year without LeBron James in nearly a decade.

Golden State then has its home-opener on Friday night versus the Memphis Grizzlies.
