Last year comedy legend Steve Martin teamed with his fellow banjo player Alison Brown on an album called Safe, Sensible And Sane. They're continuing to work together, and today they've brought some more bluegrass titans into their midst to cover... Martin and Brown recruited no less than Del McCoury and Dan Tyminski to record a bluegrass edition of "Old Town Road," the country-rap mega-hit that put Lil Nas X on the map.
Also in the mix are Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, and Garry West on bass. Their version of the song highlights the original song's country bona fides, which goes to show how ridiculous it was that country radio turned its back on "Old Town Road" when it was popping off. "I've always loved the idea of 'Old Town Road' as seen through bluegrass eyes," Martin told Billboard.
"Fortunately, some of the best bluegrass musicians in the world agreed to join us, and here we are, ready to ride." Brown added, "It’s such a well-known song that my challenge was to come up with an arrangement that would showcase our banjos without giving the song away too soon."
